MISSIONS TO BELIZE
Books To Belize
Books For Belize is part of our Mission that is
concerned with getting reading materials into the
hands of the children. Mr. Clement Wade, the
Superintendent for Catholic Public Schools in
Belize, believes that education is the way out of
poverty for the children and the country.
HOW CAN I HELP?
Books To Belize is an ongoing mission to collect books for the children of Belize.
These books consist of auxiliary reading books on an 8th grade reading level or
below. You can help by holding a Books For Belize Drive in your church or parish.
These drives last for a time of one month in which the parishioners are encouraged
to drop off their books at a selected drop-off point. We will supply the posters and
the brochures for the drive. Once the drive is over, we will arrange to pick up the
books. We will place a label inside each book informing the children who donated the
book (Missions To Belize) and the books will then be shipped to Belize. Donations to
the ministry help pay for the cost of shipping.
1. HAVE A BOOK DRIVE IN YOUR CHURCH OR PARISH
2. CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL SCHOOL
Many schools discard books every year and simply haul them to the dump. Ask your
school's principal, superintendent, or librarian if they have any books that might
qualify for Books For Belize. Again, once they have been collected we will arrange
for collection. We do not need text books.
3. CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY
Most libraries have sales periodically and they offer books at a very low, low,
price. Call your local librarian and have that person notify you the next time they
have a sale. Remember we are looking for good quality books on an 8th grade
reading level or below. We will again arrange for the books to be picked up.
Please note: Since the books are being shipped to a tropical country, they
must be in very good condition. It is not cost effective to ship books that are
ripped, torn, or in poor condition.
